Offered in this auction is one of only two known checks in existence that are directly attributed to the infamous sale of Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees. Never before, and never again, will a transaction of this magnitude ever take place. By endorsing and depositing this check, Frazee sealed his place in history but had no idea of the 86 year curse he would invoke on his city and team. While the contract might have symbolically established the details, the transfer of the funds was the substance of the deal which is everything this check embodies. Without the accompanying payment, the contract would have been just another piece of paper. This sole check is the pinnacle of signed memorabilia and potentially the cornerstone of most elite collections in the world.A transaction as exceptional as the sale of Ruth will never again take place in baseball history; as is the same for this check. The check is dated December 30th, 1921 and is payable to the “Boston American League Baseball Club.” The check is made out for the amount of $100,000. It is signed by Yankee President Jacob Ruppert and countersigned by Huston. It is also endorsed on the reverse by Frazee with a beautiful fountain pen and reads “deposit to acct of Boston American League Baseball Club by HH Frazee, Prest.” The check has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA to ensure its authenticity and protect it for years to come. The PSA/DNA label reads “Sale of Babe Ruth to NYY” and also indicates the authenticity of Ruppert and Frazee's signatures.
